Master of Business Administration – Study Online
Online Master of Business Administration (MBA)
There isn’t many ‘online’ MBA courses in Australia – (there are plenty restricted for Canadian and United States students), so I’ve been searching over the past few days for online MBA courses that Australians and Internationals can study at, and here is the best one’s that I’ve found including the price (excluding exams), Time Limit to complete, Unit’s required, Entry Requirements, Certificates, and Website – in order of my personal preference and reasons.
1. Edinburgh Business School, Scotland
Edinburgh Business School (EBS) is my first choice, even though it’s not physically located in Australia. EBS is internationally recognised and fully accredited in the UK and Australia, the EBS MBA makes it "top of my list" because you have as long (or as short) as you like to complete the MBA (no completion dates), can get certification as you go, does not require any pre-requisites like a Bachelor degree, and is extremely affordable.. it also allows you to sit the exams in over 350 centres worldwide. If you don’t have experience or an undergraduate degree, you qualify for the MBA by completing the Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration which also forms part of the modules to gain the MBA – or you can exit with that qualification. Perfect for the working professional, I really like this one.
9 Units – (7 x Core, 2 x Electives) = AUD$18,000
International Students (incl Australians): £800 per course(9 x £800) = AUD$18,000

- Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration (1 x Core + 2 x Core or Electives)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration (1 x Core + 3 x Core or Electives)

2. Southern Cross University, Australia
Southern Cross University is my 2nd choice for affordability and lots of elective choices and that the university has a good reputation in Australia – one that Australian employers would recognize. It’s downfall would be that the degree has a time-limit and that you have to complete each unit and exam during tri-semesters making it a difficult for busy working professionals to be able to keep-up.
12 Units – (6 x Core, 6 x Electives) = AUD$19,200
International Students: AUD$24,000
Entry Requirements: Bachelor + 1 Year Professional Work Experience or Demonstrated academic or professional standing equivalent to the above.
- Graduate Certificate in Business Administration (4 Units)

3. Chifley Business School, Australia
Chifley Business School is my 3rd choice, the price is really great for an online MBA in Australia, and you can do the exams in countries other than Australia – not as many as EBS, but has most of the major countries, and every city in Australia. The pricing for International students is not hefty either which is a good change from the other Uni’s – although this one isn’t a ‘university’ so may not hold as much weight in the eyes of “Australian employers" as say Swinburne or Southern Cross.
12 Units – (8 x Core, 4 x Electives) = AUD$17,400
International Students: AUD$19,200
Entry Requirements: An Undergraduate Degree

4. Swinburne Uni, Australia
Swinburne University is my 4th choice.. the price is very expensive compared to the others, there is not much flexibility in that they choose which core units you do for both the Graduate Cert and Graduate Dip and they do not offer many elective units. It also doesn’t offer International students a way to do the online course, and you must have a 5 year manager position or Bachelor degree to get in. If you do this on-campus however, you can complete it in 2 years, which is a plus, and the on-campus costs for International students is very reasonable.
14 Units – (12 x Core, 2 x Electives) = AUD$32,550
International Students: AUD$20,250
(not offered online for International Students – International students holding student visa must study full-time on-campus)
Entry Requirements: 5 Years Manager Position or Bachelor Degree
- Graduate Certificate of Business Administration (4 Core Units – not your choice)
- Graduate Diploma of Business Administration (4 Core Units – not your choice)

There were a few other online MBA courses offered in Australia, that didn’t make it to the list because information on their courses was difficult to find, one course that probably should’ve made it to the list is the RMIT online MBA course which is run by Open Universities Australia (https://www.open.edu.au/).The cost is AUD$31,680 for Australians, AUD$36,720 for International Students, but again, International Students cannot study the online course and can only study full-time.

I’m well into the Chifley MBA, and can recommend it as an excellent value-for-money MBA.
As long as:
- (1) You want business skills to add to an existing profession. This is specifically designed for Engineers, Scientists and Technologists.
- (2) You will be mainly using what you know in Australia. Although most subjects provide a solid background that can be applied anywhere, there is a definite focus on Australian Law, Legistation, Government controls and Accounting Practices. This could be one disadvantage of the Edinburgh if you are unlikely ever to actually go to the UK.
- (3) You aren’t interested in using the MBA to create a massive contact network, but this is the case for all the above listed MBAs. If you want to move into business for business’s sake, you need to look at the AGSM in Australia, or one of the top 10 schools in the US or Europe, but expect to pay through the nose for it.
The Chifley MBA has delivered exactly what I want, which is to add broad-based business skills to my profession as an Enterprise IT Infrastructure Architect, for a reasonable investment of time and money.
good employee relations is very important for the success of the company and any business:”~
